Psalm 63
Miriam-Webster’s word of the year for 2023, chosen from their most-looked-up searches, is ‘authentic.’ In an age of deep-fakes, AI, and media deception, it seems people are interested in authenticity.
If authenticity refers to something that corresponds to reality, we should applaud this interest. There is truth that exists independently from anyone’s personal opinion. But sadly, authenticity often means nothing more than being true to oneself. And when applied to Christian faith, this kind of authenticity only leads to confusion and error.
Authentic Christian living is not living a version of the Christian life with which we are comfortable – a self-sourced Christianity. It’s conforming to an external source of God’s revealed truth – the Bible. In this series of messages, we’ll consider a version of Christianity that is authentically Bible-sourced, and therefore the only version worth living.
