Tenebrae Service (April 15, 2022)

Tenebrae’ is a Latin word meaning darkness or shadows. Our service is an adaptation of an early 4th century celebration of Christian worship and traces the journey of Jesus from the gathering with the disciples in the Upper Room for the Last Supper, to the cross.

The Tenebrae service includes the gradual extinguishing of candles, representing the apparent victory of the powers of darkness over the Light of the world, Jesus, at His death. Though on Sunday we will rejoice and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, on Friday we remember His suffering and death for our sins.
